Our Mission

Bringing science to life is an important part of the process of learning about science and its role in our society. Activities such as the Clifton Scientific Trust's Teacher Scientist Partnership Network, which seek to build relationships between schools and scientists, are an important way of highlighting the relevance of science. I believe that more and more we need to consider the context of science and what better way to do this than to link teaching science to actually doing it.

Lord Sainsbury of Turville, Minister for Science, August 1998

The Government fully recognises the important role science can play in wealth creation and the vital need for children not only to be literate in science but also to be given the encouragement and opportunity to pursue a career in the field of science and technology. The Anglo-Japanese project is particularly admirable in that it contributes towards these objectives whilst at the same time furthering international collaboration.

Lord Sainsbury of Turville, Minister for Science and Innovation
correspondence, 1 November 2004

Clifton Scientific Trust is a Registered Charity established in 1991 to promote excellence and relevance in science through pupil (student) participation in open-ended programmes of real scientific exploration and application, what we call Science for Real. In 2001 the original Trust incorporated to form a new charitable company (Registered Charity No. 1086933; Company Limited by Guarantee No. 04167862).

Clifton Scientific Trust works with young people of all ages and abilities enabling them to share the experience of Science for Real, using science to address real problems in the real world.

Science here is taken to include its many applications in such fields as technology and engineering.

Clifton Scientific Trust is a Member of SETNET and of the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee .
