From Dr Allison Lang, University of Bristol

Dear Eric,

I just thought I would drop you a little to note to let you know Pam and I have been getting on with the teacher/scientist network programme. I visited Perry Court Infant School last week and spent an afternoon with 33 six year olds. It was wonderful, they were so enthusiastic and willing to learn. I developed a game to spread an infection around the class and then introduced the concept of vaccination. Pam has told me that they were all very impressed etc... and some of the children have written letters of thanks. All in all a very valuable experience. In addition the head teacher has suggested that I join the governing body, something which I am very interested in but still considering. Thanks again for introducing this system, I hope it continues to succeed.

The activities promoted by the Clifton Scientific Trust are just as beneficial to the scientist as to the student. They allow the scientist to practice managerial skills, when working with groups of students, without the commercial pressure of success or failure of the task being done. This kind of activity is actively to be encouraged within companies as personal development for their young graduates.
